Several Greek news sources report today on Frigoglass’ launching its Ecocool range of ice-cold merchandisers. The environmental credentials of the range include the use of natural refrigerants R290, R600a or R744, as well as the use of natural substances in the insulation process that render the coolers completely HFC-free.

Greek manufacturer of ice-cold merchandisers Frigoglass has launched a new range of commercial refrigeration units that offer cold drink availability with a minimum environmental impact in terms of both direct and indirect emissions. Depending on the specific application the Ecocool range will use R290, R600a or R744 the company has confirmed.

“Ecocool fulfills our long standing objectives of transitioning to eco-friendly refrigerants, providing significantly reduced energy consumption that drastically contributes to the decrease of the carbon footprint of beverage companies”, said Petros Diamantides, Managing Director of Frigoglass. According to the company, the Ecocool coolers consume up to 50% less energy than equivalent units produced 10 years ago.

HFC-free insulation and other environmental attributes

Besides the use of natural refrigerants additional environmental attributes, include:

• Natural substances used in the insulation process: The HFC-free insulation in combination with the use of HFC-free refrigerants makes the Ecocool range completely HFC-free.
   
• Intelligent energy-management system: The intelligent energy management system in conjunction with optimised and efficient design using the right components allow energy saving of up to 50% compared to equivalent units produced 10 years ago
   
• Compatibility with recycling process requirements: Advanced assembly techniques and the use of less materials contribute to increased recyclability of the coolers
