Husky to launch R290 cabinet

Making a statement about the future direction of the company, the Husky Group will launch a new eco-friendly cabinet featuring refrigerant R290 as well as smart electronics and soft start compressor technology that will allow it to achieve energy savings.
Husky to launch R290 cabinet
The Husky Group, which has already been supplying different products that use hydrocarbon refrigerant R600a, is set to launch the eco-friendly Intelligenzia cabinet, which will operate with hydrocarbon refrigerant R290. What is more, the Intelligenzia, as the name denotes, sets out to become the most clever cabinet on the market, as it will be equipped with electronics and new soft start compressor technology that will allow it to achieve significant energy savings.

“We are making a statement about our future direction by unveiling what we believe is the most environmentally friendly cabinet on the market today”, says Geoff Thomasson, Chief Executive of Husky Group.

Features of the R290 cabinet

The Intelligenzia features:
  • Refrigerant gas R 290, which has been identified by Husky as the best option for the future because it is less harmful to the environment.
     
  • Smart electronics and new soft start compressor technology that allows it to turn itself off when dormant and also turn itself down when not in constant use. The soft start technology means that the speeds increase or decrease according to needs, unlike conventional technology whereby it either runs to the maximum or switches off totally.
     
  • A maintenance-free condenser: all condensation evaporates on its own, so there is no tray to empty or waste pipe to connect.
     
  • No additional cost: According to the company, these features that ensure energy cost savings and environmental soundness will not come at an extra cost to the owners of supermarkets, convenience stores, hotels, bars or restaurants that decide to stock it.

The idea and technology behind this product is very good. I believe it is VCC compressor with inverter which controls the speed of the compressor. Practically, currently nobody on the market is using VCC compressor charged with R290 or another flammable refrigerant. Few years ago (in 2000) Vestfrost, Danfoss and the Danish Technological Institute worked with Coke on the bottle cooler (350-liter, single door) using Danfoss VCC compressor(NLV11K). The system was charged with R600a. In this project they used DC ventilators, enrgy saving glass door with special coating that reflects heat radiation and new lighting. Total saving was about 40%. So the results were very promissing. I hope Husky Group will succed.
