hydrocarbons21.com will be reporting live from Atmosphere 2009, the international conference on natural refrigerants that will next week bring together industry and policy makers in Brussels to discuss technology options, policy frameworks, and market potential. Opportunities for hydrocarbons will be explored in dedicated workshop sessions, while participants will also have the chance to witness a hydrocarbon AC unit in operation.
From 19-20 October, key players from policy, industry, and the finance community will gather in Brussels to issue clear statements regarding the use of natural refrigerants in heating, cooling and refrigeration solutions. Participants will listen to high-level speakers from the UN, European Commission, US EPA, and Greenpeace on the policy side, as well as to industry experts and the international finance community. hydrocarbons21.com will be providing the hydrocarbons community with updates from the conference.

Hydrocarbons sessions

At one of the three workshop sessions on Monday afternoon, the presentations on hydrocarbons will highlight the following topics:
  • Replacing R22 with Hydrocarbons: Practical Experience – Nicholas Cox, Earthcare Products
  • Hydrocarbons for Domestic Appliances – Jürgen Süss, Danfoss
  • Stakes and Opportunities for HC Refrigerant Use in Global Ice Cream Sales - René van Gerwen, Unilever
  • Compressors for Light Commercial Refrigeration using Natural Refrigerant - Marek Zgliczynski, Embraco
  • The Potential for HCs as HCFC-22 replacement in air conditioning -Volkmar Hasse, GTZ Proklima
  • Australian Experience with HCs and R744 - Brent Hoare, Green Cooling Association
The hydrocarbons A/C unit in operation at Atmosphere 2009

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) is currently implementing a project to convert the room air-conditioning system production in China from halogenated to climate-friendly natural refrigerants. The air conditioning unit operating with propane (R290) will be displayed at Atmosphere 2009 as a latest example how hydrocarbons can be used as a highly efficient replacement for climate damaging and ozone depleting chemical substances – at lowest costs and high safety. Moreover, Volkmar Hasse will highlight all technical details and benefits of the R290 units during his speech in the hydrocarbons workshop session.
