The United Nations climate meeting that ended on Saturday gave no more than a three-page political statement. World leaders were unable to agree on key numbers, hence preventing the agreement to qualify as meaningful climate action. An Italian company showcased its R290 water coolers to convince world leaders that climate-friendly solutions are available.
The Copenhagen climate negotiations came to a close after two weeks of talks without locking major economies into strong commitments to cut their carbon footprints. The accord doesn't have specific emissions targets for industrial countries, nor does it have deviation from 'business as usual' goals for developing countries.

The only concrete actions that the climate leaders were able to demonstrate are:
  • The Copenhagen Green Climate Fund to support projects, policies and other activities in developing countries related to mitigation including REDD-plus, adaptation, capacity building, technology development and transfer.
  • In order to enhance action on development and transfer of technology, it has been decided to establish a Technology Mechanism to accelerate technology development and transfer in support of action on adaptation and mitigation.
Blupura - hydrocarbon water coolers for the climate

In order to demonstrate that the technology to reduce CO2 emissions is already on the market and working reliably, the Italian manufacturer Blupura presented its eco-friendly water coolers. The company has been invited to show one of its eco-friendly water coolers at the Italian Trade Commission stand, at the Bright Green Exhibition that took place in parallel with the Copenhagen climate talks.

The company is the first on the water cooler market suggesting equipment cooling with hydrocarbons (a natural refrigerant gas, also known as R 290), which do not contribute to global warming, are energy efficient with a saving of approximately 15%, and offer a silent and durable compressor.

Natural refrigerants - the solution for the next UN climate meeting in 2010?

With the help of the refrigeration and cooling industry using more and more energy efficient natural refrigerants, hydrocarbons could have their fair share in the next round of climate negotiations that are planned to take place in November 2010 in Mexico. Nations will then have to agree on figures about emissions cuts in both developed and developing countries. Substitution solutions to climate warming gases (F-Gases) such as hydrocarbons should become the preferred options to help keeping the global temperature rise below 2°C.
