hydrocarbons21.com takes a closer look at the main topics discussed and events relevant to the hydrocarbons community that can be expected at world’s largest HVAC/R event beginning in Orlando, Florida next week, 25 to 27 January.
As an indication of the improving economy, a total of 1,813 companies will be showcasing their latest products and technologies to more than 35,000 HVAC/R professionals at the 62th AHR Expo in Orlando. The event promises to bring together exhibitors and industry experts from over 120 countries.
During the three day trade show educational sessions, courses and a new product technology theatre will ensure that the AHR continues to be a hub for HVAC/R knowledge exchange. Over 20 companies have agreed to hold nearly 50 free educational sessions. This is designed to give attendees a better understanding of the newest trends and technologies impacting the industry. HVAC technology’s role in various national and international green building standards will be one of the central themes at this year’s educational sessions. Hydrocarbon technology will enjoy a presence at these concurrent events.
Educational Sessions
On Monday, 25 January, the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) will host the Hydrocarbon Refrigerants “An Introduction and Experiences” educational session. This will highlight the potential for introducing hydrocarbon refrigerants in certain applications pending EPA SNAP approval. Panelists will highlight the realities and myths of flammable refrigerants. This session will feature an introduction from Jane Gartshore of Cool Concerns, Ltd. and current President of UK-based Institute of Refrigeration (IOR). Topics covered will include:
• Introduction to HC refrigerants;
• Why and where HCs are being used;
• Training issues;
• Standards covering HC use;
• Example applications (including Unilever, Waitrose, Fosters)
Tuesday, 26 January, will see the RSES conduct a presentation concerning the safe handling of HCs. Awaiting EPA SNAP approval applications will have the potential for the introduction of Hydrocarbon Refrigerants in various applications. The aim is to ensure that workforce servicing such equipment is well-educated on the safety aspects of working with flammable refrigerants. RSES speakers will cover the following topics:
• Hazards, including flammability;
• Cylinder handling;
• Safe working environment;
• Service and maintenance procedures;
• Overview of system design.
ASHRAE winter conference
As every year ASHRAE will conduct its annual winter conference concurrently with the AHR. This year’s theme will revolve around “Building Sustainability from the Inside Out” and will last from 23 to 27 January. hydrocarbons21.com will be reporting from on the ground from both these events.
